The Story Behind the Art
Lands represents the peak technical and artistic execution within Occulum, turning an ambitious multi month concept into reality. After completing Artifacts, the decision was made that the final two mini collections would also be non PFP assets, balancing the ecosystem with six avatar collections and three non avatar collections. While initially considering a generative mini world with 50 traits to create 100 pieces, inspiration struck from Billy Restey’s artwork Metablocks, which split a massive 1/1 into 400 fragments recombined via recursion.
To make the concept truly unique, the idea was reimagined with a deliberate design twist: instead of cutting up a single pre-existing artwork where standalone fragments might appear plain without context, Jazz hand crafted 100 individual 1/1 pieces that merge seamlessly into a single 1/1 world map. Planning the visual layout proved far more complex than anticipated, extending the usual one month turnaround into a demanding six month endeavor.
Every single tile had to connect flawlessly with its neighbors while functioning as a compelling, independent artwork. As creation unfolded, the vision expanded: dividing the grid into distinct regions and baking rare sats directly into each piece’s postage as native territory resources. Blending these different landscapes without awkward borders required inventive problem solving, opting for natural water boundaries, a single tile width zigzag fence, and watchtowers to maintain total cohesion across the realm.
The Six Territories
- Group 1 (Desert): 20 pieces, each backed by 10,000 Pizza sats
- Group 2 (Ocean): 20 pieces, each backed by 10,000 Block 286 sats
- Group 3 (Green Lands): 20 pieces, each backed by 10,000 JPEG sats
- Group 4 (Lava): 20 pieces, each backed by 10,000 Block 78 Silk Road sats
- Group 5 (Borders): 18 pieces, each inscribed on 1 Black Uncommon sat
- Group 6 (Dragons): 2 pieces, each backed by 500 historic Block 9 sats

What Makes It Special
- Triple Threat Execution: While standout Ordinal projects typically focus on one or two strengths, Lands pushes boundaries across fine art, multi layered provenance, and rare sats simultaneously.
- Seamless Map and Standalone Art: Contains 547,600 hand drawn pixels across 100 tiles. Every piece is visually balanced as an individual collectible, yet interlocks with bordering tiles to complete the master landscape.
- Reverse Parent Child Recursive Loop: Tracing down from the grandparent inscription, the lineage branches into regional parent inscriptions, moves down to the 100 land children, and then recursively stitches all 100 tiles back into a single map under the grandparent. This creates a closed, fully on-chain verification loop without relying on third party marketplace databases.
- Rare Postage UTXOs: Rather than using standard common filler sats to carry each piece, the postage for the vast majority of pieces was loaded with up to 9,999 additional rare sats, embedding significant physical coin value directly inside the inscriptions.
Provenance
The collection utilizes seven parent inscriptions, one grandparent inscription, and a recursive inscription combining all 100 children into a closed loop.
How to read this parent child structure:
- Grandparent Inscription: Start with the grandparent inscription, an image titled Lands by Occulum. It directly contains two inscriptions: the Lands group parent and the recursive master map.
- Lands Group Parent: Acts as the central anchor beneath the grandparent, branching directly into six territory parent inscriptions.
- Territory Parents: Six regional parents that define each zone on-chain without relying on off-chain platforms, with each parent identifying its specific sat type and map territory.
- Children Inscriptions: All 100 individual grid pieces are inscribed directly under their corresponding group parent.
- Recursive Inscription: The 100 land children are recombined via recursion into a single master map under the grandparent inscription (#84,807,577), completing a reverse parent child loop where the children point all the way back to the root.
